Description
The Walnut Creek Trail in Windsor Heights is a vital link between the city of Des Moines' trail system and the western suburbs. The trail runs along North Walnut Creek, There are parks, shelters, playgrounds, woods and access to neighborhood streets along the route. Much of the trail, particularly sections around Grand Avenue, are in floodplain and may be closed during flood events.

The Walnut Creek Trail is located in Windsor Heights, Iowa. It connects with the Bill Riley Trail in Des Moines to the east and the Clive Greenbelt Trail to the west.
Trailheads
The primary trailhead for the Walnut Creek Trail is located at Colby Park on the north side of Interstate 235 just east of 73rd Street. Direct access to the trailhead is from University Avenue south on 69th Street. Colby Park has lots of parking. There's a playground, picnic areas, rest rooms and a community center here.
