Steven was riding a bicycle along Highway 10 near Mill Creek State Park when he turned to cross Highway 10, and rode into the path of an eastbound 2006 Chevy Equinox driven by 19-year old Alyssa Kenney of Primghar. Troopers say Kenney swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting Louscher, but was unable to do so. Louscher was dead on arrival at the Sioux City hospital.

Police say Beach was dragged more than 150 feet and that one of his legs, along with his bike, became stuck underneath the front of the car. Jared was thrown from his bicycle when a pickup truck struck him from behind at 8:30 p.m. Thursday on County Route 60 just west of Hinton. He suffered broken bones in his back and both arms, as well as a concussion. Jared was halfway through a 3,000-mile bicycle ride across the U.S. to raise money for a charity when a collision Thursday injured him badly and ended his trek. The driver, Michael Vondrak, 29, of Hinton, was distracted by a passenger in his truck when the accident happened. No word on any charges. ***UPDATE Nov 3 2016 *** A Plymouth County judge found an Iowa driver guilty after he hit and paralyzed a cyclist who was on a cross-country trip for charity. Judge Robert Dull found Michael Vondrak, 29, of Merrill guilty on one count of operating too close to a cyclist and driving without insurance Thursday. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1 at 11:30 a.m.

A Iowa native was killed in a hit and run crash in Boulder Colorado when a 2015 Dodge Durango entered the bicycle lane he was riding in at about 5:15 p.m. His crumpled bicycle remained in the bicycle lane as police investigated on Saturday evening. The driver was identified as 24-year-old Callie Kuhasz, of Boulder. She left the scene but was located taken into custody. Alcohol and speed are being considered as factors. Police at still investigating. Bill was a 1999 grad from either Gladbrook or Reinbeck and went to Simpson College - class of 2003.

28-year-old Ryan McKillip of West Liberty was traveling south on Davis Ave apprpx. 9:40 am in a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville when he hit Kuhn who also was southbound on Davis Avenue. He was riding the Clive Greenbelt Trail when he veered off the trail west of 100th Street and dropped 8ft on to the rocks and into the creek.He was found face down in the creek. The only info they got was that it was a grey Dodge Avenger.Per Diane's comments on Facebook "I was on the trail. They were stopped behind the sidewalk. I had slowed down but they look towards me and stopped, so I let off my brake. Then they started, again. So I braked, again. Then they stopped. So I let off, again. Bob was hit from behind on County Road T64 in rural Floyd County between Nashua and Charles City. Todd Schriever, 50, of Marble Rock was driving the pickup truck who hit Philips. Philips was training for his first RAGBRAI that he was going ot do with his daughter. Philips was flown to Floyd County Memorial Hospital but died of his injuries. officers first responded to the area near the Skunk River Bridge at around 9:14 pm on Wednesday to a report of a car-bicycle accident. Upon arrival, they found the male bike rider, dead. An investigation revealed that both the vehicle and the bicyclist were northbound on Highway 61 when the car struck the bike from behind, throwing the rider from the bike. The rider was riding in the right lane of the highway, not wearing reflectors and had dark clothing on when he was struck.

Charles Wesley Brown was riding his bicycle in the 2800 block of SE 14th Street in Des Moines. A witness said she saw two men get out of their car and attack Brown for what seemed like no reason. Brown was hospitalized and was in critical condition almost a week later then passed awat from his assault injuries. Des Moines detectives arrested 28-year-old Michael Joseph Scott, of Des Moines, in connection with Brown’s murder. Scott has been charged with second-degree murder. A citizen’s tip led police to Scott.

Charles was riding his bike northbound along the 280 block of SE 14th Street when two men jumped him, punched him in the face and knocked him off his bicycle. Witnesses describe the suspects as white males in their 20s. The men left the scene in a silver 1996-2003 era Pontiac Grand Prix four-door sedan. Charles died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack. Police said the case is now being investigated as a homicide. The case remains under investigation.

Joleen Marie Stork, 60, of Glidden was mountain biking on county road E-26, east of Sycamore Avenue in Carroll County, when a Chevy pick-up drove up behind her and, not seeing her, struck the bicycle. Stork was thrown into the north ditch and pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner. Sgt. Nathan Ludwig with the Iowa State Patrol said the bike and vehicle were both travelling west toward a setting sun. "This looks like an accident," Ludwig said. The accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. It is still under investigation.

Gregary Wade Franck, 41, was critically injured at 10:00 am on Sunday morning as he rode down Grand Ave near 51st Street when he was hit behind by Jonathan Leyva Rodriguez who had a lengthy criminal record, including child endangerment, OWI, assault and a driving-while-barred arrest. Jonathan who was nearly 3 times the legal limit, left the scene of the accident after hitting 3 more cyclists along Grand Ave. befere driving to his girlfriend's house in West Des Moines. Several other bicyclists witnessed the crash and were able to provide a description, including a license plate number. Jonathan was detained after a short time. Following interviews and further investigation, 31 year old Jonathan Leyva was arrested for OWI 2nd offense. Wade died 3 days later in the hospital. After Franck's death, his charges were upgraded to: Homicide by Vehicle, Homicide by Reckless Driving and Failure to Render Aid Resulting in Death. Wade and others were participating in the Urban Assault bike ride.

The accident remains under investigation. *** UPDATE July 16th 2016 *** Courtney Lynn Johnson, 24, was sentenced on July 16th for three traffic offenses. She told police that she was texting when she hit 21-year-old Grace Harken of Riceville from behind last July on Highway 218 near Osage. Johnson was fined $1,000 and her license was suspended for 180 days by Judge Nicholas Larson during Friday's sentencing hearing. That's the maximum sentence for the misdemeanor of texting while driving resulting in a death.

A 92-year-old Mason City driver who hit an 83-year-old bicyclist on Wednesday has been cited. Kathryn Colville, 92, was cited for misdemeanor failure to yield to a pedestrian. Colville's eastbound car hit a bicycle, which was also going east, on Fourth Street near Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. The crash happened about 1 p.m. The cyclist, Anna Murnigkeit, 83, of Mason City, was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Authorities say Shevchuck was riding her bike in the traveled portion of the roadway, while the other bicyclist was traveling on the shoulder. Troopers say a southbound car driven by 23-year-old Dustin Abbas of Milford collided with the rear of the bike Shevchuk was riding. Troopers say the driver of the car couldn't see the bicyclists as they were wearing dark clothing and had no lights or reflectors on their bikes. Authorities say the collision remains under investigation.

Wince was unable to stop in time and smashed into the side of Caswell’s car. Caswell then fled the scene, striking two pedestrians who had stopped to assist Wince. Wince suffered a fractured clavicle and multiple soft tissue injuries. Caswell was arrested later that evening and charged with failure to maintain control, financial liability and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He was fined $195.00 for failure to maintain control. He is scheduled to stand trial on July 8, 2015 for fleeing the scene. The financial liability case is being held open at this time.

Police say Patricia Fullerton, 91 of Mason City was driving west on a city street shortly before 3 p.m. and attempted to turn south when she struck 54-year-old Terrie Eliason’s bicycle. Fullerton saw Eliason get up, then thought the bicyclist wasn’t injured and drove home. An n ambulance was called to the scene, but Eliason was not taken to the hospital. Fullerton has also been charged with failure to yield right of way on a left turn.

At approximately 7:00pm Scott was commuting East on Kingman. He stopped at 31st and waited for the light to change. A Pickup truck driver was traveling West on Kingman, and signaling a left turn onto 31st. He waited over 30+ seconds for the light to change, so there was ample time for the motorist to see Scott. The light turned green, and the pickup pulls out into the intersection and acted like they were going to stop, but did not. The motorist clipped Scott's rear wheel. Scott had two headlights (1 steady, 1 flashing) and was wearing a bright yellow reflective safety vest. The driver was completely inattentive and told police that she did not see the bicycle. There were witnesses, but DSM police did not file an accident report because there was 'no injuries'. The driver was only cited fort expired insurance.

A child on a bicycle was hit by a vehicle on Fairview Street north of Pence Elementary School in Fairfield. The vehicle was described as a black, four-door car driven by a female.The driver of the vehicle continued without stopping following the incident. No report on the extent of the injuries. 5 days later, Nicole Elizabeth Wheeler, 18, of Fairfield, came to the law center and stated that she was the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. the Wapello County Attorney’s Office charged Wheeler with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Injury. The charge is a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in county jail and a fine of up to $1,875.00. She was charged with the offense.

Dan Werner, 66, died Sunday Sept 21st, after crashing his bicycle 3 days earlier. Werner was attempting to pass a pedestrian from behind at about 3:30 p.m. when he made slight contact with the woman and his bike flipped forward. Werner did give an audible warning to alert the pedestrian he was passing her. Werner was an experienced cyclist,and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police stated there was no particular fault of anybody and no one was negligent.

A Des Moines man said he was attacked by a groom and members of a wedding party after he asked their limousine driver to move the vehicle out of a bike lane Saturday evening (Sept 15th) because it was unsafe for bikes to pull into the vehicle lane of the street. The limousine driver said the wedding party was taking photos and, using profanity, told the victim to leave. The groom also told the victim to leave and the two argued. The groom pushed the victim and punched him in the face and several groomsmen also got out of the limousine, and threw the victim's bike across the street. No charges had been filed.

Eddie Martin, 50, of Burlington was shot and killed by someone in a passing car as he sat on his bike at a Burlington street corner around 3 p.m. 8 months later Joshua Royer, of Burlington, was found guilty of first-degree murder for killing 50-year-old Eddie Martin. No motivies reported. UPDATE 5-24-15 - Royer was sentenced to life in prison. Royer also was ordered to pay Martin's family $150,000 in restitution and the Iowa victim's compensation fund nearly $35,000.

Peggy Brown, 73, of Des Moines turned in front ot Jeff Wicks, 40, as he rode his bike in a bike lane through a green light and into the intersection of West 29th Street in Fort Collins, CO. Wicks was unable to stop in time and smashed through the rear passenger-side window and door before crumpling to the street. Brown continued driving west. She turned around moments later and saw a group of people gathering around the cyclist, slowly drove past the crowd stopped for a moment to inspect the damage before continuing on. A witness followed her and called police. She was arrested about three miles away. Wicks, who was in one of his final long rides before competing in IRONMAN Boulder when he was injured. Wicks, an engineer with OtterBox, was badly injured in the crash and suffered severe facial trauma, a shattered right wrist and serious nerve damage due to gouges in his shoulder. The impact also caused a moderate traumatic brain injury that sometimes still affects his speech. Brown received 320 hours of community service in addition to a $3,000 fine separate from restitution, he said the community needed to see that leaving the scene would not be tolerated. The duration of her license revocation was pending as a separate matter handled outside of the courts.

55-year-old Brian Guy Lauterbach, of Charles City, died after being hit by a car driven by a 16-year-old boy from Rockford as he rode his bicycle eastbound on Highway 14 about five miles west of Charles City. The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Brian was pronounced dead at the Floyd County Hospital. The State Patrol did not indicate whether the driver had been charged in the crash.

Approx. 9 pm two bicyclists were riding on the far right side of 63rd Street and Tyler Avenue when a small white Chevy pickup truck was driving northbound on 63rd Street, hit the bike and then continue to drag the bike through the intersection. The truck had visible damage to the windshield and front bumper. Koranda was thrown into the air during the crash and hit the windshield, witnesses told police. Koranda was taken to Mercy Medical Center. Police said he is in stable condition with a broken pelvis and a head injury. Clark was charged with OWI -- first offense, serious injury by vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Clark did not have any alcohol in his system, but admitted to police that he’d smoked marijuana earlier that night. Police also found marijuana inside the truck. In a report, police wrote that Clark was unsteady during field sobriety tests and acted distant. UDPATE: Apr 27 2015 - Austin William Clark, 19, avoided a prison sentence and instead was sentenced to two years of probation.The charge is a Class D felony and could have garnered a maximum five-year prison sentence. Clark still served a 30-day jail sentence for the marijuana possession charge.

Two boys were hurt when a minivan hit the bicycle they were riding in Storm Lake. Storm Lake police say the boys rode the bike into traffic. The 13-year-old boy and the bicycle were pulled under the driver's side tire. Police say the boy hurt his arms, legs and feet. North Liberty police officers were called to the scene of a car-bicycle crash at approx at 8:35 pm. Responding officers found the bike rider, 57-year-old Robert H. Wickham, lying on the ground near his bike. Police said they could smell fresh marijuana near Wickham, who was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Police said Wickham had more than two ounces of marijuana in the bag. Wickham was arrested and faces one count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony. No charges were filed against the driver.

Tom was riding on Northwest 44th Street near Saylorville Lake around 2:15am on his way home from a night with friends, when a vehicle struck him from behind. Troopers said that vehicle did not stop. The car that sped into Tom left him with a broken tailbone, two broken legs, and a collapsed lung beneath an entire set of broken ribs. Tom was found in the middle of the road by another driver. Had he been in the ditch he wouldn't have survived his injuries. Lueck was flown by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital. Officers believe the car that hit Tom probably has some serious damage to it and to call CrimeStoppers. To our knowledge the driver was never identified.

A male cyclist was struck by a car approx. 8:40pm along U.S. 61. in rural Scott County near West Lake Park between Davenport and Blue Grass. A recumbent-style bicycle was attempting to cross U.S. 61 when it was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by John Hillgartner, 60, of Blue Grass. Hillgartner attempted to avoid the cyclist, but was unable to and struck the cyclist with the front left of his vehicle. The bicyclist was not wearing reflective clothing or a helmet. A 60-year-old Bettendorf man suffered from a bicycle versus car accident in Pleasant Valley around 11am. The driver of the 2006 blue Chevrolet Impala, Nancy Pearson, 61, of LeClaire that struck the cyclist was issued two citations: failing to maintain control and unsafe passing of a bicyclist. The cyclist was later flown to University Hospitals because of his head injuries, the deputy said. Police said he wasn't wearing a helmet.
