The Principal Riverwalk was completed in early 2013. As hoped, the
project has helped strengthen the heart of our city, unite the east and
west sides of downtown and provide opportunities for outdoor
recreation. It has also spurred additional development in the
surrounding area, adding to a more vibrant downtown.
New opportunity: Honor a Woman of Achievement
This spring, as part of The Principal Riverwalk dedication, the
iconic bridge at Center Street in downtown Des Moines will be officially
named "The Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge." The bridge will display
the names of women from Iowa's history who have been nominated by
citizens and selected for recognition by a panel of judges. As part of
the naming, the first women to be recognized will be announced and their
plaques unveiled on the bridge.
