The Aurelia City Council voted on Monday night to serve as a pass-through community when RAGBRAI gets underway in late July, but it’s unlikely to become reality.
The unanimous 5-0 decision came one week after all but one council member, Courtney Bruce, expressed varying levels of skepticism about welcoming thousands of riders to town when the party on wheels makes its way from Sioux City to Storm Lake on July 23.
RAGBRAI’s overnight cities were announced last month but the event’s organizers in recent weeks have been working to finalize specific route plans. Quimby is expected to be a pass-through town and RAGBRAI Director Matt Phippen has had discussions with city officials in both Aurelia and Hwy. 7 corridor neighbor Alta.
