Ames officials look forward to the return of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa to Ames, especially as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The route, announced Saturday, will take bikers into Ames on Tuesday, July 25, as the Day 3 overnight town — just as it was on RAGBRAI's original route in 1973. Ames also served as an overnight town in 1983, 2008 and 2018 and as a pass-through town in 1976.

"We're certainly really excited for this opportunity to welcome bicyclists and guests back to Ames" and giving visitors a chance to see the city's parks, entertainment and food, Iowa State University's campus, Jack Trice Stadium and more, said Ames Mayor John Haila.
