Work on the 16-mile, multi-million dollar PlyWood Trail project has come in fits and starts over the summer.

Wednesday, the PlyWood Trail Foundation, which is overseeing the project to connect Plymouth and Woodbury County with a bike and pedestrian path, released a statement saying "an unusually wet spring and June flooding have led to completion challenges."

"We appreciate the community’s patience and we’re excited to provide a safe place for citizens to recreate and to connect the communities of Le Mars and Merrill this fall," PlyWood Trail Foundation Executive Director Ryan Schaap said in a statement.

Because of the flooding, Schaap said PlyWood Trail Foundation workers are making any necessary repairs and replacing seeding that washed away. The anticipation is the phase will be done sometime in the fall.
