Pedal Off the Pounds
Challenge
What is it?
Pedal Off
the Pounds is a fun way to help shed those unwanted winter pounds, based off of
the hit television series “Biggest Loser”. With weekly weigh-ins, weekly rides,
and instruction from USA Cycling Coach David Ertl, the program is “a practical
approach to weight management through bicycling and sound nutrition”.
Why a bicycle challenge?
Pedaling off
the pounds through bicycling is a nonimpact exercise, which means there’s no
jarring on your joints, so even the heaviest rider can climb aboard a bike and
pedal. With today’s fully geared bicycles, anyone from the most out-of-shape
beginner to the recreational racer can pedal for miles (and burn loads of
calories) hour after hour.
It’s been
proven that organized weight loss groups have a higher success rate than
individuals when attempting to lose weight.
Biycling
creates a fun, healthy activity for your family, and lose weight at the same
time!
When is the challenge?
The
challenge will begin with an orientation to the program on Monday, April 29th,
2013, in which the program will be discussed in detail, an initial weigh-in
will be conducted in privacy, before photos taken, and a discussion from Coach
David Ertl regarding what foods to eat, as well as some cycling basics.
(Choosing a bicycle, trail information, etc.)
The first
weekly ride will be Monday, May 6th and continue every Monday night
until the final weekly ride, on Monday, September 30, 2013.
THE Challenge
The Pedal
Off the Pounds challenge is a 23-week program.
Weigh-in’s
will be held weekly, Monday evenings at 6:00PM, beginning Monday May 6th
with our weekly ride following the weigh-in. Weight losses/gains will be
recorded with prizes awarded to the person (male AND female) that loses the
largest percentage of body weight each month.
Rides are
catered to beginning rider’s and the ride leader will ride behind the pack to
offer assistance to anyone who may need it along the route.
Meetings
will be conducted at the shelter on the south side of the loop in Water Works
