In 2024, we're keeping the excitement alive with our "Fresh Parks" concept, where each week's practice brings you to a new Des Moines park. Experience diverse and dynamic courses that not only challenge your skills but also introduce you to parks you may have never explored before. Cyclocross is a "rain or shine" adventure, but we respect our partnership with Des Moines Parks and Recreation. If conditions are too wet or storms are brewing, practices may be moved or canceled as safety and sustainability come first.

UPDATES!!!
  • Rent the park - This year, the rental for the back-loop was $250. This ensures the back loop is officially closed so there won't be cars driving on the the paved sections along the cross course thus keeping YOU safe.
    WE will have a DONATION BUCKET there that night with hopes of re-couping the rental fee. THANKS in advance.

  • FIREWOOD - We need wood! If you have some, please bring it to the fire that night!

The back loop cross practice last year was off the hook! This was a new venue for 2023 and eventually let to the Back Loop Cross race later in the season. Come practice them hang out for smores and a bonefire. Check out the video of the 2023 practice.

COST - For us to close off the back loop of the park, there is a $250 fee, plus the cost of all the party supplies. We don't have deep pockets, so we'll have a donation bucket that night to regain the park expenses or you can venmo BIKEIOWA LLC. All funds are appreciated to re-coup these expenses.

COURSE DETAILS - This is quick and twitchy course through the front section of the back loop. Passing is limited, but that's what makes it fun. We'll actually ride around the bonfire area, so when you get done, it is an easy migration to the party. We'll have the course marked we'll do a parade lap at 5:45pm so you know the course layout. (note: route may change day of depending on park users, etc.)

Stick around from 7-9pm for fire-side camaraderie

We'll have a fire going at the firepit.

Bring chairs and dress accordingly.
Open to anyone at CX Practice, Spouses/Friends welcome too.
Park closes at 10pm, so fires must be out and we must be gone by then.

PARKING - The back loop will be closed for practice and for the majority of the party. There is parking along the West side of the main loop. You can easiky ride there too! THE BIKEIOWA van will be parked there with the waiver table close-by if you haven't signed one already.

RENEGADE CYCLOCROSS

Practices are every Tuesday, starting in late August and rolling through early November. Arrive early, get warmed up, and ride at your own pace or with a group. For those eager to push their limits, group organized laps begin at 5:45 pm.

This is your opportunity to sharpen your cyclocross skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. Ride laps at your own pace, join others, ask questions—whatever suits you. No entry fees, no prizes, no official results—just pure riding.

It’s the perfect chance to build intensity, practice barriers, tackle run-ups, descents, and refine your cyclocross techniques alongside riders of all levels. Newer riders can boost their confidence and enjoy the camaraderie, while seasoned cyclists get in a solid workout and share their expertise. But most importantly, it’s all about getting out on your cross bike and enjoying a good workout with friends. Sound good?
