Each and every Monday we put together professionally organized and guided group rides that cater to cyclists of all abilities and levels. From the very beginner to the elite category racer. The rides are each individual routes (no overlap) that offers cyclists of all abilities a group to connect with a group that supports them for FREE....
When: Each Monday Night (weather permitting) roll time is 5:45 PM- Back before dark! April through September!
Where: Waukee Trail Head (West side of Waukee- by Shottenkirk Chevrolet/Mulch Mart)
What: Here is a description of the three ride options offered:
The “A” Ride Frontrunners Ride: This is a ride for our most advanced
riders, Those riders who average 150+ miles per week on a bike; feel
comfortable in a race type environment and are familiar with the skills and
tactics necessary to remain safe riding in groups at an aggressive pace. The
rider of this ride should feel comfortable holding an average pace in excess of
20mph and is looking to practice the skills used on race day to achieve greater
success. This ride will be 40 miles in length and will have multiple KOM (King
of the Mountains) and Sprint Points built in that will be tracked via Strava.
No trophies will be awarded, as this is not an actual race… This ride will be a
“drop ride” meaning that the leaders will not re-group the riders. Many of the regular participants are category racers and the route is mainly on rural Dallas County Roads after a short warmup and cool down on the trail system!
The “B” Ride Competitors/Social/Recovery Ride: This is a ride for the majority of
riders in an active community like Des Moines. This ride will be 32 miles in
length and be a mixture of trails and open road. This route will also have one
Strava tracked KOM point and Sprint point built into it; But this group will
re-group at a designated point. The rider who selects this ride should feel
comfortable riding at an average pace of 17-19mph (with and 18mph cap placed on the main group) comfortable conversing with fellow rides while learning to work together in a group and looking to have a good
time and get in a good workout out in the fresh air!
The “C” Ride Beginners (Ice Cream)Ride: This is a ride for those riders who are
newer to cycling or quite simply want to enjoy a more causal and conversation
friendly pace. This ride will be 100% on the trail system and will be
approximately 12-13 miles in length. The ride will be guided and there will be
multiple points to regroup the riders. The rider who selects this ride should
feel comfortable on a bicycle and have all the necessary equipment to ride
safely in a group!
