The Howard County Conservation Board and the City of Cresco are announcing a joint project for the rehabilitation of local trails.
The project includes the Prairie Farmer Trail along Highway 9 East, from approximately York Street, to 900’ east, south along Highway 9 from the Pole Line Road to the trail head parking lot, and from Prairie’s Edge Nature Center to 7th Avenue SW.
This project was one of six projects statewide awarded federal funds through the COVID-19 Relief Recreational Trail Program, which will be administered by the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Construction will include the removal of existing trail surfaces, replacement of culverts and construction of a new concrete paved surface. The project will improve surface conditions and upgrade trails to make them more accessible.
Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2023, with necessary tree removal, and will be completed in the fall 2023.
Trail sections will be kept open as long as possible until work begins, then closed during construction.
Please observe all traffic control and closures posted at trail heads and crossings.
For questions about the project please contact either Prairie’s Edge Nature Center at 563-547-3634 or City Hall at 563-547-3101.
