Des Moines’ newest television commercial as part of its “The S’s Are Silent” campaign has begun airing throughout Iowa, and in Omaha, Minneapolis and Kansas City.
The 30-second animated ad was created by Calabash Animation of Chicago. It features a technique called rotoscaping, where animators trace over real images to create a nostalgic retro feel. The ad, “Our City Is Booming,”features Gray’s Lake, Adventureland, the Lauridsen Skatepark, a concert at the sculpture park, the High Trestle Trail and the State Fair.
The narration was done by Cory Williams of the Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps. Greg Edwards, president and CEO of Catch Des Moines, said the commercial illustrates how diverse and vibrant Des Moines is. “We wanted something bold and progressive, and this doesn’t look or feel like any other travel spot,” he said. “It captures the feeling of the wonder that visitors experience when they discover Greater Des Moines.”
