In 2019, Susan and Jonathan Frantz opened Fenceline Beer Lab in Huxley. And then COVID-19 hit. So as they like to say, they are now in their second attempt at Year 1.
The couple began their journey to craft brewery owners as many do, traveling the country, visiting many different breweries and dreaming about opening their own.
“We’ve been home brewing since before we were of legal age to drink it," said Susan, who serves as Head Brewer. After thinking about it for years, they finally created a five-year plan to open a brewery and restaurant.

The Frantzes found Huxley to be the ideal spot for their new venture. “Huxley had everything we wanted: a small town, having a great bike trail, with a passionate and supportive community and a spot in their downtown,” Susan said. It’s that sense of community that also led to the naming of the brewery. If you have a fenceline at home, they explain, it not only defines your personal space, but it’s also where you often meet your neighbor.
