Fort Dodge man suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing his bicycle into a car on Kenyon Road early Wednesday morning, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The bicycle-versus-car accident was reported at 5:58 a.m. The conditions were clear and dry, ISP reported.

Fort Dodge police were dispatched to the area of Avenue C and Kenyon Road.

According to troopers, Ricky Cullum, 63, was riding his bicycle northbound on the sidewalk on Kenyon Road.

Meanwhile, Joseph Johnson, 34, of Fort Dodge, driving within the intersection in a Chevrolet Caprice.

Johnson was preparing to turn south onto Kenyon Road from Avenue C. That turn was a right-hand turn.

Next, Cullum’s bicycle collided into the side of Johnson’s car.

Cullum was air lifted to a Des Moines hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Johnson was uninjured.

The Fort Dodge Police Department, Fort Dodge Fire Department and Iowa State Patrol were on scene.
