The Plywood Trail committee gave an update on progress of the Plywood Trail, linking Sioux City and Le Mars on Monday.

Plywood Trail committee members say there will be three phases when building the trail.

The first phase will connect Le Mars and Merrill.

The committee says they are in the fundraising stage of phase one.

The overall projected cost for the trail is $18 million. They’re hoping much of that cost will be covered by federal and state grants.

“It’s a great economic development and aspect for all of the communities along the trail. It attracts families, anyone that uses a trail, a multi-purpose trail,” said Lesley Bartholomew, Plywood Trail Executive Committee. “We just know it’s a great exciting thing for our community. And we’re happy to start bringing it to life.”

Committee members say it will be the largest trail on the western side of Iowa, connecting two major communities.
