To my cycling friends:

A few years back, the DOT's Motorcycle Safety Forum had the theme "Conspicuity" about being a conspicuous bike rider. They recommended modulated headlights, many lights, reflective clothing and riding gear, and anything that would make them more visible to drivers. It would be to your advantage to have reflective clothing, flashing front and rear lights while riding during the day and night and an additional road light on the front or on your helmet. LED lights make this possible with their low battery drain. All new cars have daytime lights with the same goal and even mopeds must have lights at all times. While you may feel that it is unfair that you have to purchase these, they may well keep you alive by being conspicuous while riding. I would like to have you around for a bit longer.

Agree, if you have a friend who rides at night with no lights, buy them some... or at least really encourage their use. Similar to a bike helmet, maybe?
