Paullina, Iowa — A 77-year old Paullina man has lost his life as the result of an accident in Paullina Thursday morning.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Steven Louscher of Paullina was riding a bicycle along Highway 10 near Mill Creek State Park when he turned to cross Highway 10, and rode into the path of an eastbound 2006 Chevy Equinox driven by 19-year old Alyssa Kenney of Primghar. Troopers say Kenney swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting Louscher, but was unable to do so.
Louscher was transported by Paullina EMS to Baum Harmon Mercy Medical Center in Primghar with what are described as serious injuries, before being transferred to Sioux City. The Iowa State Patrol confirmed that Louscher was dead on arrival at the Sioux City hospital.
Troopers say Louscher was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Kenney escaped injury in the crash.
Troopers estimate damage to Kenney’s SUV to be about $7500.
