It's National Bike Month and Des Moines areacyclistsare celebrating with twonew bike-friendly initiatives.
As of last week, a first-of-its-kind bike route map landed in bike shops across the Des Moines metro. The two-sided colorfoldout offersa large detailed map of the downtown Des Moines area and a broader map of the metro.The illustrations identify every bike lane, major vs. minor roads, off-streettrails, points of interest and even "steep" and "very steep" hills.The goal is to equipcyclists withlocal
knowledge on the lay of the landto plan theirsafest or preferredroutes.
The map was put together by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective and several sponsors.
