The city of Ottumwa is another step closer to having a tunnel on the bike trails.
City council will vote to accept the CAT grant from Vision Iowa at their meeting Tuesday night.
The CAT grant from Vision Iowa awarded Ottumwa with $125,000to buildan underpass underneath Highway 34.
It will connect the trail to the Ottumwa Park and campground.
"We're
voting to actually accept the award. We have to have the approval of
the council on this particular grant and it authorizes me to sign any
necessary legal documents to convey back to the Vision Iowa team that
the city is behind this and we are trying to start on it just as soon as
we can," said Mayor Tom Lazio.
Right now, the city is working on engineering and design plans for the tunnel.
It’s expected to be completed in spring or early summer.
