From May 12 to May 18, residents of
Independence will have the chance to enjoy RAGBRAI inspired artwork at
the Independence Public Library. The RAGBRAI organization sponsors a
Kids’ Art Contest for elementary school students in each overnight host
community along their annual route.
Students from
several elementary classes created and submitted artwork ranging from
marker drawings to clay sculptures. The artists were asked to create a
piece of artwork representing the town’s RAGBRAI theme which is “Glowing
on the River”.
“It was so much fun to look through all the
student artwork. You can tell that many of them put a lot of time and
effort into their pieces and it’s a wonderful way to showcase their
creativity,” said Jenny Yoder, Indee RAGBRAI Publicity Co-Chair.
The Indee RAGBRAI Publicity Committee will be
selecting one overall winner who will have their artwork sent to Des
Moines with the RAGBRAI committee in June to be entered into the
statewide contest.
Students entered into the statewide contest have the chance to win the grand prize of $350.
