Ames will be installing new bike racks designed by area artists at the end of the month.
The racks, seven in all, will be in downtown Ames, according to the city.
They will include three racks designed by Brent Schipper; two at City Hall and one at the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Main Street.
One rack, at Tom Evans Plaza, is designed by Jim Russell; two racks designed by Michael Stanley will be at 233 and 319 Main St.; and one rack designed by Mack Geggie, will be at 228 Main St.
They will hold between two and eight bicycles, depending on the location, and a dedication ceremony will take place during the Octagon Art Festival in September, the city said.
The project was funded by the city and Public Art Commission. The commission reallocated $1,600 in unused funds, and the city kicked in $900 more.
