New Belgium has again put Des Moines on the list of just 10 select cities for the Urban Assault Ride this year--third year in a row for Des Moines. The Des Moines date is Sunday, Aug. 12.
We're already winners in one category: Organizers have told us that Des Moines was the leader for early registered riders, beating Austin, Denver, Minneapolis and some other terrific bike-friendly communities.
In Des Moines, we like our bikes! And fun. And social events.
This year, New Belgium has increased the cap to 2,000 riders (1,000 teams). We will need to be on our game! Let's have a great showing so organizers will put us on the lists for Tour de Fat next year.
New Belgium has requested that the Des Moines Bicycle Collective round up a tick more than 60 volunteers to pull this off. Volunteers receive:
