Grab your bicycle and get ready to start in Big Creek State Park and end wherever your heart desires in the Des Moines metro with a soon-to-be connection between the Neal Smith Trail and the High Trestle Trail.
In August, the High Trestle Trail was connected to the Raccoon River Valley Trail, a 72-mile-long trail that goes through Guthrie and Dallas counties, creating a 120-mile loop perfect for a loop around the metro.
Now, Polk City is taking the opportunity to connect the High Trestle Trail to the Neal Smith Trail with the Polk City Junction Trail. The new link is expected to strengthen connections between communities tied together by the metro's bike trail network.

Where will the connection between the High Trestle Trail and the Neal Smith Trail be?
The Polk City Junction Trail will branch off of the High Trestle Trail at The High Trestle Trail Oasis, a trailside gazebo just a couple of miles north of Polk City for 1 ½ miles south.
