RAGBRAI says it is working to reroute its Sept. 14 Great Iowa Fall Ride after a resurfacing project closed a portion of the trail it plans to use.

Held annually since 2021, the Great Iowa Fall Ride is a one-day, Des Moines-area ride organized by the same staff that puts on the weeklong Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa each July. It has become a swan song to cycling for central Iowans at the end of summer.

The 26.2-mile fall ride was planned to go from RAGBRAI headquarters at 505 Scott Ave. through Water Works Park to Cumming on the Great Western Trail. Organizers advertised stops at up to nine bars on the route.
