Cedar Falls / Waterloo The annual Cedar Valley Trails Festival gets underway Wednesday, August 5, and continues through Sunday, August 9, with a wide variety of fun activities for all ages. The public is invited to the opening ceremonies late Thursday afternoon at 5:30, at the Hearst Center, on Seerley Blvd in Cedar Falls. The Cedar Trails Parnership sponsors this annual event. Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 11am Senior Cruise Supported by sponsorships from Friendship Village and Western Home Communities. Seniors are invited to enjoy lunch and a narrate tour of the trails in the comfort of a van for just $5. Tours depart from the Cedar Falls Community Center, 525 Main Street, 319-277-1900. Cedar Falls Community Center, 525 Main Street, Cedar Falls Thursday, August 6th, 2009 5:30pm Opening Ceremonies, Special Presentation, and Trail Walk Sponsored by the Cedar Falls Tourism and Visitors Bureau. Experience Jim O'Loughlin's special presentation of "Loose Women", Wheelmen, and the Golden Age of Bicycling, followed by Opening Ceremonies. and a Trail Walk. Hearst Center for the Arts, 304 W. Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls Friday, August 7th, 2009 4pm-7pm Dog Walk Sponsored by Taylor Veterinary Hospital. Bring your dog out and enjoy the trails on foot! Don't have a dog? Come walk on of the adoptable dogs from the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Walkers will start at the Cedar Falls Paw Park, South Main Street, and must be 14 years of age or accompanied by an adult. Cedar Falls Paw Park, South Main Street, Cedar Falls 6pm Bridge to Bridge Ride Sponsored by the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau. Ride the new trails along the downtown Waterloo Riverfront and then kick back and enjoy the music of SuperFly Samuria at Main Street's Friday'Loo event. Lincoln Park, East 4th Street & Lafayette, downtown Waterloo Saturday, August 8th, 2009 7am Cedar Trails Festival 5K Run Sponsored by the Cedar Valley Sports and Entertainment Commission. Trekman Racing will facilitate this event which begins at Gateway Park in downtown Cedar Falls. Pre-registration required. Call 800-845-1955 for details. Gateway Park, downtown Cedar Falls 9am - 11am Bicycle Safety Rodeo Come test your cycling safety skills with local Park Rangers and law enforcement officers. Event also features the "I Got Caught" program that awards prizes to children "caught" wearing helmets and free bicycle inspections provided by Bike Tech. Black Hawk Park, 2410 West Lone Tree Road, Cedar Falls 10am Tour de Valley Ride Sponsored by Scheels All Sports. Choose from a 7- or 23-mile ride throughout the Cedar Valley trails. The shorter route is great for young families. All registrants are entered into a drawing for a new bicycle from Scheels! Drawing will take place promptly at 10am. Sign up by filling out your waiver prior to starting the ride. Gateway Park, Downtown Cedar Falls 7pm-10pm Light Up the Night Ride Sponsored by Europa Cycle and Ski and coordinated by the Cedar Falls Junior Chamber (Jaycees) with assistance from Martin Brothers Distributing. Music sponsored by the Hearst Center for the Arts. Experience the thrill of a candlelit ride and the pre-ride music of Bob Dorr and the Blue Band. Ride begins at dusk (approximately 9pm). Bike lights and helmets are required. Cedar Trails Patrol members will be monitoring trails for safety. Gateway Park, Downtown Cedar Falls Sunday, August 9th, 2009 7am Hartman Eco-Triathlon Supporting the Friends of Hartman Reserve, this USAT-sanctioned adventure triathlon begins at George Wyth State Park with a 5.5K kayaking segment to Hartman Reserve Nature Center. A 17K off road mountain bike ride and 5K trail run follow ending at Hartman Reserve Nature Center. Pre-registration is required. Visit www.hartmanreserve.org or call (319) 277-2187 for details. Hartman Reserve Nature Center, 657 Reserve Drive, Cedar Falls 11am Poker Ride Sponsored by Bike Tech. Riders will visit various points of interest along the trails collecting cards to compete in a game of poker for prizes. Special drawings for those under age are available so bring the whole family! The fee is $10 ($5 with your 2009 trails festival t-shirt). Everyone will gather back at Mulligan's where the poker madness begins and prizes are awarded.
