On April 19th join the Des Moines Park and Recreation Department for the 2014 Mayor’s Annual Ride and Run for Trails.   


RAGBRAI and The Des Moines Register will continue as co-sponsors of the ride, which helps improve, maintain and hi-light Des Moines’s recreational trail system.  Mayor T. M. Franklin Cownie will lead the ride assisted by The Register’s own Dream Team.    In addition to the ride, the Park and Recreation Department has added a 5k run to the day’s events. 

The 5k run will start at 8:00 AM at City Hall and the route will consist of downtown trails. 

The 25 mile run will start at 10:00 AM, also at City Hall, and will travel through many area neighborhoods before ending back downtown.  

Event shirts will be guaranteed to all participants that register prior to April 2nd.  Zombie Burger meal cards will be given out to the first 700 that register for one of the two events. 

Proceeds for both events will go towards improving Des Moines’ trail system. To register please visit our website at dmparks.org or sign up the day of the event at City Hall.  Registration will begin at 7:00 am.

 Registration Fees for either the Run or the Ride are:  

$25.00 per adult before April 1st

$30.00 after April 1st

$5 for children ages 5 through 18 years, 

and children 4 and younger are free. 

You may enter both events for an additional $5.

I think it should say '25 mile ride' instead of '25 mile run'. That is my guess. Also, if you volunteer and help with registration, you can get free registration and you have time to join the ride. I have done that for several years.
