The Iowa Bicycle Coalition begins their statewide “Support Your Local Bike Shop Week” tour today with stops across the state through Saturday, December 7. The tour highlights local cycling businesses and will provide publicity, marketing materials, and recognition for participating shops. Last year, the Coalition and its members visited over eighty local bike shops across Iowa during the annual event.
Each bike shop visited by the Coalition will be provided with their own social media “reel” courtesy of the Coalition team to highlight their business, and these reels will be posted by the Coalition on social media throughout the week. The Coalition encourages cyclists and supporters across Iowa to participate by visiting the local bike shop in their community, snapping a selfie with the owner or manager, and tagging the Iowa Bicycle Coalition on social media with the hashtag #IowaBikeShopTour. The Coalition is active on Facebook,X, and Instagram. Click here for social-media graphics that the Coalition is encouraging participants to share.
The tour is sponsored by Primal Wear, a cycling apparel company based out of Denver, Colorado. Primal will be donating ten percent of all orders from participating bike shops back to the Iowa Bicycle Coalition from today through the July 2025 RAGBRAI ride as part of their Primal Gives Back program.
Coalition Executive Director Luke Hoffman said, “Our local bike shops — and countless bike friendly businesses — are the lifeblood of local economies across the state of Iowa. Local bike shops are powerful economic engines that serve Iowans as a place that brings communities to life. Join us as we honor and highlight their important work with the 2024 Iowa Bike Shop Tour, touching every corner of the state.”
The tour will make stops across the state, including the following cities:
Des Moines | North Liberty | Arnolds Park | Decorah |
Carroll | Solon | Muscatine | Okoboji |
Storm Lake | Coralville | Ankeny | Davenport |
Spencer | Cedar Rapids | Waterloo | Cedar Falls |
