Distance - 4 or 15 miles

The Ankeny Police Department would like to welcome riders of all skill levels and ages to come pedal with us!

This event will be both educational and fun for all. We will start out the day from 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm by teaching riders some quick checks to do on their bikes before we ride. We will also offer bicycle helmet fit checks and helmet giveaways to those in need (while supplies last).

You will have a chance to converse with Ankeny Police Bicycle Patrol Officers about different local and state laws as they apply to bicycles. There will be 4 obstacle courses set up: 2 for beginning riders and 2 for experienced riders. The experienced obstacle courses will include two of the many required drills Bicycle Patrol Officers have to pass to be certified by the ILEA as Bicycle Patrol Officers.

The event will finish off with a ride of your choice starting at 2:00 pm. You may pick from a 4 mile ride or a 15 mile ride with Ankeny Bicycle Patrol Officers through the City of Ankeny highlighting the great trail network of Ankeny.

Route

15 mile ride: This 15 mile ride with the Police will have approximately 400 feet of elevation gain. We will start out at the Ankeny Market & Pavilion and ride through the City of Ankeny highlighting a small portion of the great trail network of Ankeny. We will utilize the High Trestle Trail, the DMACC Lake Trail, the Oralabor Gateway Trail, and multiple neighborhood trails.

4 mile ride: This 4 mile ride with the Police will be an easy paced ride for riders of all ages. We will start out at the Ankeny Market & Pavilion and travel to the overpass of the Trestle Trail at Oralabor Rd. and then return to the Ankeny Market & Pavilion.
