Gary's Ride is a non profit 501(c)3 charity organization founded by Kristin Wiedenfeld and created in loving memory of Gary Wiedenfeld; husband to Kristin, step-father and avid cyclist, who bravely battled glioblastoma. Gary is referred to by many as "our hero" because of his courage, faithfulness, strength, perseverance, kindness and commitment to helping others. Gary faced many battles in his life, including multiple surgeries and a near life-ending bicycle accident but non as great as his fight against brain cancer (glioblastoma multiform grade IV) from April 2020 until May 17, 2021. Forever in our hearts, our love for Gary propels us forward to make a difference in the lives of patients that are diagnosed and will be diagnosed with Glioblastoma.
Our mission is to raise funds and hope for those impacted by brain cancer, especially Glioblastoma. Funds raised help support the MercyOne Richard Deming Cancer Center to: 1) Help secure local clinical trials for future treatment. 2) Enable a terminal brain cancer patient to enjoy their dreamed of adventure (Gary's Adventures Sponsorship). 3) Provide supportive services like massage therapy/acupuncture/music and art therapy. 4) Facilitate brain cancer rehab services, such as speech, occupational and physical therapy. 5) Transportation fund to help patients get to and from appointments. 6) Fill gaps where insurance falls short for patients and families (Compassion Fund).
Goal for 2024: Raise $45,000 for Richard Deming Cancer Center
Ride ends in the downtown of Dallas Center at the Board and Batten, LLC, where there will be food, beverages, vendors, outdoor activities for kids and adults. The businesses downtown will also be open for participants enjoyment. Food trucks (and I might say they are AWESOME): Magoo’s Pizza and Sabores De Mexico!! Now if that doesn’t make your tummy rumble and want to come and attend . . . . . ??
