EMBRACE the Adventure.
We tried HARD to find a similar route to the previous years, but Mother Nature has wrecked havoc in this area. Washed out roads and closed bridges gave us 3 possible routes:
One was only 3 miles (too short), one had a section of pavement, too many driveways and mean dogs (too dangerous), and the third one is a bit longer than we wanted, but offers the safest route with some distance (YES!).
We know folks are chomping at the bit to get out and we did not want to postpone or cancel the race, so be prepared for an adventure! The roads are gnarly in some sections. There is fresh gravel, deep ruts, mud, wet spots, pot holes and sand. If any of this scares you then DO NOT SIGN UP.
KNOW THE COURSE
This is more of a gravel road race than a normal Spring Classic (multiple laps). Each lap is 19.3 miles. It will feel like more - we guarantee it.
We'll have some course marshals and some directional course markings. We cannot guarantee than each turn will be manned/marked.
YOU are responsible for knowing the course.
Cue cards and GPX/TCX file are provided. PLEASE print your own CUE CARDS.
NOTE: We feel good about the route, but be aware it may change as late as race-day. Be Prepared.
BE SAFE
The course is NOT closed.
Watch out for vehicles, dogs, ruts, soft spots and holes.
Be careful riding behind someone or in a pack - this will be DANGEROUS on this course!
Be careful passing - the road conditions can change quickly
Watch the corners - they are very soft
Easy on the downhills.
Ride Ride - move to the right when riding up hills
Be Nice - call out holes, ruts, etc to your fellow racers
Bike Choice
It's up to you.You know your skillset
We don't recommend a road bike with skinnies.
35mm tires and more are what we recommend
Fat-Bike friendly
That all said - Have Fun!
