Join Scott from BIKEIOWA.com to hear about what's on his radar in the Iowa cycling scene this weekend. #FridayFives is a new series for Summer 2020 and we plan to share fun destinations, events and happenings each week.

For Week #7, it is:

1) SHORELINE FATBIKING
At BIKEIOWA.com, we are serious fans of fat biking. Scott shares some info about the two laps around Saylorville Lake and explains why fat bikes are awesome!

2) RAGBRAI - VIRTUALLY THE BEST
For the first time since it started in 1973, there won't be cyclists convening at the Missouri River to pedal to the Mississippi River for RAGBRAI.This year, there wil be RAGBRAI - Virtually the Best Bike Ride 2020. For $55, you can register for a week of RAGBRAI-fun from the comfort of home and help to keep the RAGBRAI spirit alive. Along with the virtual ride, there will be an online expo and we'll be part of it. More info to come!

Register online: https://ragbrai.com/

No word on how our friends Mr. Pork Chop and Iowa Beer Bus will be able to sling virtual pork chops and virtual beer, but we are crossing our fingers.

3) IOWA GRAVEL CLASSIC
Relentless Events, spearheaded by Sarah Cooper, Steve Fuller, Dennis Grelk and Dori Jansma are excited to host 100 cyclists for this weekend's Iowa Gravel Classic at Whiterock Conservancy near Coon Rapids, Iowa. We are impressed at the social distancing guidelines they have put in place to make the event happen!

4) GROUP RIDE RULES
Lake Country Cyclists, Ankeny Iowa have hosted responsible, organized group rides throughout the pandemic. We asked them about their rules and they shared what they've done to keep club members safe. They haven't had any issues and some club members report they are in the best shape of their lives!

5) FIREWORKS
Scott got curious and did some research about how fireworks became the way to celebrate America's independence. It's been going on since America's 1st Birthday (back on July 4, 1777). Many fireworks shows are cancelled because of COVID-19, but Slater Iowa Community Club in City of Slater, Iowa is still planning to have fireworks (which are always some of the best around) at about 10PM on July 4. The Nite Hawk Bar & Grill is an ideal place to wait for the fireworks!

THAT’S IT FOR THIS WEEK ! You can find more information on all of these items by checking out https://bikeiowa.com/

And finally, it's still a pandemic. It's still important to SOCIAL DISTANCE!

If you've got any ideas for future Friday Fives, send us a message!

Have a great weekend, RIDE SAFE and stay healthy!
