Do you enjoy a RAGBRAI type experience but rather ride with only 100 to 200 others? Then RASDAk may be the ride for you. It is the Ride Across South Dakota. Mary and I were part of the first ever ride. We rode from Hill City (Mount Rushmore) to Sioux Falls in 6 days. The ride is fully supported so you need not worry about lugging your camping gear across the state. Rest stops were spaced about every 10 miles. Showers and dinners were available at every campsite. A few overnight towns had motel lodging for those who needed a night of pampering. SAG service and a mechanic followed the riders to see if their services were required. every pass through community was notified in advance of our presence and locals came out to support us. The scenery was breathtaking.

This year's ride was limited to 100 riders which allowed everyone to have an opportunity to meet and know everyone. The roads were thus never overcrowded by bicycles. No waiting in line for an air conditioned seat at a restaurant.

This is a very challenging ride. One needs to be able to ride 100 miles in a day although most days were well under 100 miles. One must be able to climb a few long hills, nothing extremely steep but some hills were a few miles long. Prepare for wind.

Mary and I plan to attend next year's ride.
