May 3 is a nationwide initiative that promotes active transportation and advocates for safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

Iowa schools are gearing up for Walk Bike Role To School Day, an annual event that encourages students to walk, bike or roll to school.

Walk Bike Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 3, is a nationwide initiative that promotes active transportation and advocates for safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is urging schools to register and participate in the event. By walking, biking, or rolling to school, students can improve their physical health, reduce their carbon footprint, and build a sense of community with their peers.

Walk Bike Roll to School Day is a great opportunity for schools to promote active transportation and encourage healthy habits among students," said Matt Burkey, the Safe Routes to School Manager for the Iowa Bicycle Coalition. "We have 12 schools signed up already but we want greater coverage across Iowa to help promote active transportation."

Registration for Walk Bike Roll to School Day is open and can be done online at walkbiketoschool.org/registration. Schools can be registered by anyone in the community including teachers, administrators and parents.
