The bridge over Oralabor Road was put into place Thursday night. The trail connections will not be complete until July 1.

A big new bridge now spans Oralabor Road in Ankeny, which will soon help connect three popular trails in the community.

The Oralabor Gateway Connector will link the High Trestle Trail, the Gay Lea Wilson Trail and the Neal Smith Trail when complete.

"In Ankeny we have about 100 miles of community trails, and the High Trestle Trail is a prominent stop," said Nick Lenox, director of Ankeny Parks and Recreation.

The city purchased the land for the connector trail in 2013. Another 1.5 miles of trail needs to be laid down for the three trails to be fully connected.
