If you had told Ron Haden two years ago thatnot only would his town's new fire station be built in a year but that it would be paid off less than a year after that, he would have questioned your sanity.
The Lytton Area Emergency Services Agency trustee has been working with his board and small-town officials to raise money for the fire station for about two years. They were still working to gather donations when RAGBRAI rolled into town last month.
Within a few hours—after four sessions of goat yoga and more than a thousand slices of pie had been consumed—organizers had raised thousands toward paying off the debt. Efforts before and during RAGBRAI resulted in about $15,000, in total, for the station.
