If you’re up for an adventure this summer that includes fun on the water, nature activities, culture, recreation and even the excitement of sprint cars but don’t want to travel far from the metro, the Red Rock Area is your best bet.

Carla Eysink, Executive Director of Marion County Development, summarizes all the Red Rock Area has to offer: “Lake Red Rock, with over 15,000 acres of water and 35,000 acres of public land, is situated between the Dutch village of Pella and the sprint car capital of the world, Knoxville. In the Red Rock Area, you will find over 1,000 campsites, award-winning brew pubs and restaurants, quaint specialty shops and outdoor recreational activities.”

Add some hiking and biking to your itinerary by exploring the Red Rock Area parks and trails. “For a big challenge, take up the 106 feet to the observation deck of the Cordova Tower at Cordova Park,” said Eysink. “After coming down the tower, take a run down the 1-mile dirt Karr Nature trail. After your run, get on your bike and begin the 17-mile Volksweg Trail through the northern shore of Lake Red Rock.”
