Cedar Rapids residents have been eagerly waiting for Mount Trashmore to reopen once the construction was completed. On Saturday, that will finally be the case.

The site has been undergoing a series of renovations over the past several weeks including new entrances, restrooms, trail upgrades, and building remodeling.

The Mount Trashmore challenge also begins on August 1st encouraging people to climb the mountain a total of 140 times. That distance is equal to the height of Mount Everest. Those who complete the task will receive coupons or other prizes from local businesses.

Zac Hornung is the Recreation Coordinator for Mount Trashmore. During an interview, he stated that the motivation behind the challenge was , "To incorporate some wellness and fitness into this site".
