Legal bills from a troublesome sidewalk curb that upended cyclists continue topile up for Des Moines.
The city has so far settled four lawsuits with riderswho crashed into a curb that formerly occupied the southeast corner of Southwest 16th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway along the bicycle trail.
Settlements to the four riders — Larry Conklin, Mark Evans, Robert Foss and Bill Swoboda — have totaled about $1.91 million, including a $125,000 payment to Conklin the Des Moines City Council authorizedMonday.
The four crashes took place in the spring and summer of 2017 after the city installed the 6-inch, unmarked curb in March of that year.
