Firetrucker Brewery founder and brewmaster Dan Heiderscheit died this week, the brewery announced Thursday.
In a Facebook post, the brewery said “no words can adequately express our sadness at Dan’s passing or capture our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him.”
Heiderscheit, 51, founded Firetrucker in 2014 with co-owners Neil Zaugg and Scott Kaven. The three of them opened the brewery in a former Ankeny firehouse on the Fourth of July that year.
He died Wednesday at his home, surrounded by families and friends, according to his obituary.
A formerinformation technology executive, Heiderscheit had been a homebrewer for more than two decades — going back to his days as an aerospace engineering student at Iowa State University — before opening Firetrucker.
