Construction on Veterans Parkway will affect walkers, runnersand cyclists who use the Great Western Trail in West Des Moines this summer.
The construction of the intersection of SE 35th Street and Veterans Parkway will occur in four phases, according to a news release. City Engineer Brian Hemesath said the city is working to keep the impact to the trail to a minimum.
During the first and second phases of workscheduled to begin this week, the existing trail will remain open.
During the third phase, a short gravel bypass on both sides of SE 35th Street will direct riders to the existing trail, according to the release.
