The Bacoon Ride presented by Veridian Credit Union is a 71-mile ride on the scenic Raccoon River Valley Trail on June 15 starting in Waukee. This ride features food stops along the trail for riders to sample bacon specialty foods coordinated by the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. Bacoon Sizzles is the Friday Packet Pickup Party with a band and beverage garden organized by Waukee Festivals. Free camping is available. Hey ladies! This is the last week to sign up for The Pigtails Ride Presented by The Prairie Trail. This ride is a 48-mile women's specific ride on the famous High Trestle Trail on May 18 starting in Ankeny. Specifically designed and run by women, the Pigtails Ride brings together women who enjoy bicycling for fellowship, food, and fun. Damon Dotson will play at the Flattire Lounge; a photographer takes portraits at the High Trestle Bridge; and a DJ dance party at the Oasis. Sign up at www.pigtailsride.com.
If you are having fun, don’t forget to sign up for The Big Rove Ride. The Big Rove is a 36-mile ride along the Iowa River Corridor Trail on June 29 starting in Iowa City. This inaugural ride starts at the Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City and takes riders to the Big Grove Brewery in Solon. The ride retraces the route back to Iowa City ending at the Big Grove Brewery. Entertainment includes The Spacemen - a bicyclists’ favorite classic rock band - Dueling Pianos, and Jamtime Productions DJ - a RAGBRAI favorite. Register at www.bigrove.com.
