As we make our way through December, now is a good time to think about getting your yearly permits to utilize the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

Dallas County Conservation Outreach Coordinator Ken Keffer says passes are required for utilizing the majority of the trail, and adds that they make for thoughtful yet inexpensive presents. “It’s kind of the end of the calendar year, which means 2019 trail permits are now available. They make a great gift for anybody, kind of stocking stuffers. So an annual permit is just $10, and you can get those at the office now or at the trailheads on January 1st.”

Permits can also be purchased online or over the phone, and they’re valid from January through December. Furthermore, if people don’t want to buy a permit for the whole year, there are daily passes available at the trailheads and at Forest Park Museum for $2. Finally, Keffer reminds people that kids under 18-years-old do not need a trail permit, and you also don’t need one when using the trails located within city limits.
