John Brunow of
All Ability Cycles is anxious for RAGBRAI's arrival in Jefferson on Monday.
Jefferson has PLENTY going on for riders in town. We love it when a bike shop is smack-dab in the RAGBRAI action.
All Ability Cycles in Jefferson provides cycling products to individuals with special needs. They offer some unique bicycle brands as well as bicycles for special needs.
All Ability Cycles, LLC was created to provide adaptive cycling solutions for people in Iowa and beyond. Located on the southeast corner of the Jefferson square in a 2,200 square foot refurbished former theater, the store and work shop are just three blocks from the trailhead of the Raccoon River Trail. The store serves local cyclists, visitors from the RRVT, and people seeking cycling solutions. The Brunows also travel extensively attending events and meetings of advocate organizations for individuals with special needs. Working out of a large van that John calls the "Mothership" they provide test ride opportunities. They support the mechanical needs of the Adaptive Sports Iowa team on RAGBRAI.
When you ride into Jefferson, stop in and check them out...!
ABOUT JEFFERSON
Naturally, Jefferson is located on the historic “Highway to Bells,” the pedaler’s roadway from Denison to this cozy, west central Iowa oasis. They are home to one of the tallest bell towers in the country, the 168-foot high Mahanay Bell Tower, which recently celebrated its 50th birthday. It features 47 immaculate-sounding bells, of which often can be heard belting out familiar tunes throughout the day. But, Jefferson is so much more than a musical delight.
The 89-mile multi-use Raccoon River Valley Trail either ends or begins in Jefferson, however you want to approach it. The trailhead, on the southeast portion of town adjacent to the county fairgrounds, descends through Cooper and connects to Panora before making a turn east, touching towns including Perry, Jamaica, Dawson, Yale, Herndon, Adel, Dallas Center and Grimes. Our downtown square (which we are quite sure you’ll spend a decent amount of time in this summer), recently underwent a makeover, with several businesses now boasting beautiful facade upgrades.
In addition, Jefferson is also a mecca for some of the most influential businesses today as well as leisure activities. The Power Lift factory, which has constructed weight rooms for several Division I colleges and professional organizations as well as some of the most famous athletes in the world, is located right here in Greene County.AAI, a company which manufactures gymnastic equipment for the Olympics and the men’s and women’s national teams, as well as Spalding, are located on the western edge of Jefferson.
ABOUT THE BRUNOWS
John and Ces Brunow moved back to Iowa in 2010 after a twenty-seven year tour of America's eastern coast. They sold their bike store, bikes@vienna, LLC, sold their home, and left two children in Virginia and Maryland. They returned to Iowa to be closer to John's parents in Centerville, IA. They chose Jefferson, IA for its central location in the Midwest, the gateway to the Raccoon River Valley Trail, the Cyclists of Greene, and the friends kept from years ago when Ces grew up in Jefferson.
