If you thought the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa was tough, try doing RAGBRAI in one day. Eighteen riders did exactly that Oct. 8, pedaling about 300 miles to cross the state, from Council Bluffs to Muscatine.

Why? RAID — Ride Across Iowa in a Day. It’s an annual ride, or a race for some, across the state of Iowa.

Some riders took a supposedly easier path of only about 150 miles, starting in either Council Bluffs or Pleasantville for a “half day.”

Weather at least cooperated this year and riders enjoyed a day with highs in the 60s and an 8-to-13-mph tailwind.
