DES MOINES, Iowa —Passersby watched some bike racing Sunday afternoon in downtown Des Moines as the East Village Criterium brought out bike riders from across the Midwest.
Two hundred cyclists, ranging from age 9 to over 50, competed as the course wove by the state Capitol and other metro landmarks.
“My goodness, this is the best backdrop as you can see,” cyclist Brian West said. “This is amazing. It’s very spectator-friendly. People are bringing their families to be at the park. They have their dogs with them. It’s a great place to be.”
Organizers said the proceeds from Sunday’s event will go toward Above and Beyond Cancer.
