Residents and community members of Chickasaw County met in Fredericksburg last Thursday to share their thoughts and feelings on a proposed Regional Bicycle Accommodation Plan that was brought to them by the INRCOG Iowa Bicycle Coalition.

This meeting was an opportunity for the public to give their input on the 2040 update to the Iowa Northland Regional Bicycle Accommodation Plan.

Among those in attendance were a representative from Trees Forever, the ISU Extension Office, Fredericksburg Mayor Bryan O'Day, Chickasaw County Supervisor John Andersen and Chickasaw County Tourism Director Jason Speltz.

INRCOG Transportation Department employee Kyle Durant said the group would be focusing on non motorized side of transportation on Thursday and revealed differences they had made to the road trail plan.

This group from INRCOG covers six counties, making and planning long range transportation plans.

Also on Thursday, the group wanted to hear of existing trails that should be included in the master matrix map they presented.

Durant and INRCOG Transportation Department employee Codie Leseman identified some routes that are safer for travel to the members in attendance.

“It is up to each jurisdiction or county if we can move forward with this plan,” said Durant.
