The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will be at Whiterock on June 5-6 for a land managers training and a trail building school. The events are free but registration is required.


Friday, June 5 - IMBA Land Manager's Training

The Land Manager training educates land managers on IMBA and the practice of designing, building and maintaining sustainable trails; as well as the importance of partnerships with local mountain biking organizations to achieve great trails. The curriculum is geared toward land managers who oversee land that either provides, or has the potential to provide mountain biking opportunities. Key topics include trail building theory; sustainable trail design and construction; user management techniques; erosion basics; volunteer management; natural resource management, stacked loop systems; understanding flow; effective signage; trail maintenance concerns; reroutes and reclamation. The event is free but registration is required.

Saturday, June 6 - National Trails Day - IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) Trail Building School

IMBA's Trail Building School teaches IMBA's philosophies and trains local volunteers and land managers on how to build and maintain sustainable singletrack. The school involves three hours in the classroom followed by about four hours in the field doing hands-on trail work and field instruction. Key topics include trail building theory, essential elements of sustainable trails, designing a trail, constructing the trail, rerouting and reclaiming trails and armoring techniques. This event is free but registration is required.


  • Classroom 9 a.m. - noon @Bur Oak Visitor's Center at Whiterock Conservancy, 1436 Highway 141, Coon Rapids, IA 50058
  • Lunch provided
  • Trail work 1 p.m. - 4/5 p.m. @ River Campground at Whiterock Conservancy
  • Saturday evening and Sunday will have opportunities to be social and ride the new trails at Whiterock Conservancy.
