Iowa has over 145 trails totaling 2000+ miles of multi-use trails.

We've got a list of enhancements to make to the site this Winter to make it easier to find out about trails, their amenities, and the communities they are associated with.

We realize it is confusing for cyclists, especially those from out of town to navigate their way through so many trails with so many different names. Some of the trails are connected and form some pretty nice mileage for riding.

For example, there are 6 urban trails in downtown Des Moines, and not one is over a few miles long... but... they all connect, and in total there are over 16 miles of trail to be ridden that form a nice scenic loop around the city. And that my friends, we call a destination!

One enhancement we just added will show "Connecting Trails" on each Trail page. This will aid in showing the trail connections throughout the state.

How YOU can help "Connect the Trails"...

We don't know every single trail in Iowa intimately, and yes, we could certainly spend hours researching websites and trail maps to identify all the connections, but we know many of you ride the trails in your area and you know which ones are connected.

We ask that you take a few minutes and pull up the trails near you and help us update these connections. From a Trails page, you'll see a new section on the right hand side called "Connecting Trails". If you see a connection that is not listed, just press the update link, choose the connecting trail and press update. It's that easy!

You must be a member of the BIKEIOWA Community to add connecting trails. You can join for FREE here.

If you see any trails that are missing, please let us know and we will add them.

This is just one more step for Iowa to becomes the "Trails Capital of the World".

Thanks
Ride Safe and Keep Warm!
