Tourists in Clear Lake have a new mode of transportation available to them — bicycles.Eight
bicycles, available in men’s, women’s, girls’ and boys’ styles, can be
rented for $25 a day, or $20 for three hours, at the Clear Lake Chamber
Office, 205 Main Ave.
“Visitors were requesting it,” said Chamber tourism director Libbey Patton.
She said the Chamber has been working out a way to offer the service for some time.
“Clear Lake is a bicycle-friendly town,” Patton said.
The
bicycles are vintage-style beach cruisers for easy, comfortable riding,
Patton said. They have been available for rent during business hours
since July 17.
Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
The
bicycles were obtained with support from Wal-Mart, Wayne’s Ski and
Cycle, which is assisting with maintenance, and the Cerro Gordo County
Department of Public Health, which provided funding for bicycle helmets,
signs and a bicycle rack in cooperation with the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, Patton said.
Other sponsors are River City Auto and Luker’s All-American Storage.
Additional sponsors are being sought to fund additional bicycles and their maintenance, Patton said.
Profits from the bicycle rental will go towards promoting Clear Lake as a tourist destination.
