The City of Mapleton recently received word that RAGBRAI® XXXII will be coming through Mapleton during the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, July 25-31, 2004. "We have chosen to pass through your wonderful town, because we feel this route is the safest for all participants and showcases the beauty of Iowa and your community," said Jim Green, RAGBRAI® director. Mapleton was presented a pass-through town agreement. This information states that the riders will pass through Mapleton on Sunday, July 25. They also note that RAGRBAI support is from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are asking locations to have a shut down time so riders are able to arrive at the next overnight town before 6:00 p.m. If conditions are ideal (i.e., 75 degrees F, low humidity, no wind), riders can average 10 mph. For example if you are 40 miles (4 hours away) from the overnight town, that would mean that riders need to leave no later than 2:00 p.m. This year's ride will begin in Onawa and the first overnight stay will be in Lake View.
