Des Moines Parks and Recreation and Bike World Iowa Announce Bike Rental Partnership again for 2011 Downtown Des Moines will once again soon have more to offer! Starting Saturday, April 16th., there will be one more thing to add to that list. Bike World Iowa and Des Moines Parks and Recreation will provide bike rentals by the hour, half days, full days or seven days from 10:00am – 8:00pm at the Overlook Terrace concession stand Grays Lake Park. “Bike rentals offer a great opportunity to explore downtown and the confluence of the rivers, as well as providing access to hundreds of miles of area trails, and Grays Lake is the perfect hub to start. This will not only be a benefit for local residents and downtown workers but a terrific positive for out of town visitors” according to Bill Throckmorton, Bike World Iowa Marketing Manager Visit www.bikeworldiowa.com or www.dmgov.org The following also applies to the program:
  • Bike rentals include a helmet, which renters must wear while riding.
  • A credit card and photo ID are required for use of the equipment.
  • All bikes must remain on hard surfaces unless renting a mountain bike.
Renters are encouraged to enjoy the expansive Greater Des Moines trail system through this program; a trail map of the trails in central Iowa is provided at the concession stand free of charge with or without a rental. Bikes are rented on a first-come, first-served basis and equipment of various sizes and styles are subject to availability. Advance reservations for specialty bicycles (i.e. tandem, recumbent, trail bike or bicycle child trailer) or equipment of a specific size can be made with the use of a credit card by calling the concession stand at least 48 hours in advance at 242-2855.
